Euro Sham Pillows and the Decorator's Touch

There are many types of pillows in the world. One of the most adored types is the sham pillow. Among these pillows the European variety, often called the Euro sham pillow, is a favorite item for many. These pillow types are noted for being both large and square. They are the perfect item for leaning against while reading, writing, watching television, or relaxing in general. The shame of any type is an accent pillow. It is used to make a piece of furniture, typically a bed, more luxurious.
There are a few key differences between shams. The primary difference is the overall size. Standard and king size shams as provided by many companies are around 20" X 26" for the standard and 20" X 36" for king size. A European sham pillow will be 26" X 26". This is a style and design size that is quite popular due to its square appearance. Many bedding patterns currently utilize this size of sham in their design.
The European sham is primarily intended for usage with bedding but it can be used for other furniture such as a couch. This is a handy concept if this couch also happens to fold out into a bed. These types of pillows are often very useful when combined with the standard size. The combination creates an intriguing ensemble piece that can turn a lovely bedding pattern into a truly extraordinary custom piece. Part of the fun of decorating the home is to put an individual's specific style into where they live. Patterns are beautiful, but free expression and a desire to make a statement with a room's decor are important components of an individual's home life.
A few pillows might not seem to be that big of a deal to many people. However, a proper sham can make or break a room's feel. Shams, euro or otherwise, that clash with the rest of the room's decor will cause the entire area to appear like an eyesore. However, a well thought out Euro sham pillow ensemble can turn an otherwise drab bedroom into a true work of art.
Mixing and matching shams is an art in and of itself. When an individual starts moving away from preconceived notions regarding bedding designs and decides to start crafting for themselves it can be both fun and daunting. It takes time to develop the eye for detail necessary to truly craft a Euro sham pillow masterpiece. However, many find it to be quite rewarding as a practice.
